Welcome to FELT by Clarity
Where die-cutting meets felt, colour and stitch.

FELT by Clarity is a wonderfully simple way to explore the world of felt crafting, combining our Fresh Cut dies with beautiful wool-mix felt to create colourful inlaid designs.

The clever adhesive backing makes the felt easy to cut, position and piece together, so you can concentrate on choosing your colours and enjoying the creative process. Once your design is assembled, leave it just as it is or add hand stitching, embroidery and other decorative details to make it completely your own.

Start with a single felt tile, then take the idea further with mug rugs, placemats, table runners, cushions, wall hangings and more. The system is designed to grow with you — whether you’re completely new to stitching or already love working with textiles.

One tile, endless possibilities.

FELT by Clarity - Frequently Asked Questions

What is FELT by Clarity?

FELT by Clarity is a creative felt-crafting system that brings together our Fresh Cut dies, beautiful wool-mix felt and optional decorative stitching. The dies cut the felt into coordinating shapes that can be mixed, matched and inlaid to create colourful designs for all kinds of projects.

What is special about the FELT by Clarity felt?

Our adhesive-backed wool-mix felt has been chosen to work beautifully with Fresh Cut dies. The adhesive backing helps prevent the felt from stretching while it is being die-cut and makes it much easier to position and assemble the individual pieces of your design.

What does ‘inlaid felt’ mean?

Rather than stacking lots of felt shapes on top of one another, the die-cut pieces fit within each other to create one flat layer. By swapping the different coloured nested shapes, you can create lots of different combinations from the same design.

Do I have to sew the felt pieces together?

No. The adhesive-backed felt holds the pieces securely in position, so stitching is optional. You can leave your project unstitched or add blanket stitch, embroidery, French knots, beads and decorative threads to give it your own finishing touches.

Can I use a sewing machine with FELT by Clarity?

Yes. FELT by Clarity projects can be hand stitched or machine stitched.Because you are sewing through adhesive-backed felt, we recommend occasionally wiping your sewing machine needle with a tumble dryer sheet to help prevent adhesive residue building up.If adhesive does collect on the needle, it can be cleaned away using isopropyl alcohol. Make sure the machine is switched off while cleaning the needle and allow it to dry completely before you start stitching again.

Do I need to be experienced at sewing?

Not at all. FELT by Clarity has been designed so that you can start simply and take the system to your own skill level. You can make a tile without stitching at all, or introduce decorative stitching, embroidery and embellishments as your confidence grows.

If you do want to add hand stitching, the Clarity Stitching Rulers make it much easier to achieve neat, even results. Each ruler includes a variety of different stitch patterns and spacing options, helping you mark out consistent decorative stitches before you begin. The transparent design also makes it easy to line the ruler up with the edge of your felt.

Can I iron FELT by Clarity?

Yes, but take care with the heat. Use a warm, not hot, iron and always place a clean tea towel or cloth between the iron and the felt. This helps protect the pile from direct heat and keeps the felt looking its best.

Is FELT by Clarity washable?

No. FELT by Clarity projects are not washable. We recommend using the system for decorative projects and accessories that do not need to be laundered.

What can I make with FELT by Clarity?

You can start with something as simple as a single decorative felt tile and then take the same idea into larger projects. FELT by Clarity can be used to create mug rugs, placemats, table runners, cushions, wall hangings and more. Individual tiles can also be joined together, so the system can grow from one small project into something much more ambitious.

Can I use the FELT by Clarity dies with card and paper?

Yes. The nested Fresh Cut dies used with FELT by Clarity also work with card and paper, so they are not limited to felt crafting. This gives you even more ways to incorporate the designs into your existing crafting.

Can I use FELT by Clarity felt with my other Fresh Cut dies?

Yes. FELT by Clarity felt can also be used with other suitable Fresh Cut dies, opening up even more possibilities with dies you may already have in your collection.

Can I mix different FELT by Clarity designs together?

Absolutely. The different shapes and colours work beautifully together, so you can mix designs within a larger project rather than using the same tile throughout. This makes FELT by Clarity particularly suited to bigger projects such as wall hangings, where you can combine different patterns, shapes and colour combinations to create something completely your own.

Is hand stitching necessary to get the FELT by Clarity look?

No. The adhesive does the practical job of holding the pieces of felt in place, while stitching is there to add decoration and character.A simple blanket stitch creates that lovely handmade, folk-art look, but you can also experiment with different stitches, embroidery threads, French knots, beads and other embellishments – or simply leave the felt unstitched.
