MIS-OC-60229-XX
Barbara will be your tutor for this online course and she will endeavour to pack as many tricks and tips into this course as possible.
You will work together, in 2 LIVE online sessions on Saturday 18th October 2025:

Session 2 - 2pm - 4pm
If you are unable to attend the live session, don't worry. As with all our online courses, you can revisit the sessions any time - you have the key to this course forever.
A message from Barbara about this course:
The aim of this course is to focus on alcohol ink, and the various ways that it can be used to great effect on a Gel Plate.
There are so many additional techniques and tricks that I would like to share with you, using alcohol ink independently - and the Gel Plate too. But I think, just for starters, the exercises we will cover on this day will serve as a solid foundation.
They are intended to help you learn different processes and sequences, and to get more comfortable with printmaking using a Gel Plate.
How many times have I heard people say, “I have a Gel Plate, but I’ve never used it. It’s still
in the packet”. So, today we are going to experiment, have fun and finally dispel all the fears and reservations around this simple piece of kit.
This workshop is aimed at not just dabbling, but really getting to grips with ONE material
and ONE small plate.
Printmaking with a Gel Plate definitely falls into the ‘unpredictable art’ category. You can
follow the processes to the letter, but you will NEVER get the exact same result. This is the
very essence of mono-printing! Every single print that you pull is an original.
That said, you can certainly master processes which will help you steer your art in a certain
direction, rather than just hit and hope!
And that, my friends, is what this workshop is all about: processes and sequences.
We will travel gently, and start small. It is more comfortable and less daunting to work on a
smaller ‘canvas’, isn’t it? We will work on a 6x6 inch Gel Plate. Of course, everything we learn in this session can be applied to ANY size Gel Plate.
Unlike other workshops of mine that you may have attended, this one is focussed primarily
on mastering the method, and less on finishing cards.
That said, we really have to ask ourselves what exactly we are supposed to do with all
these beautiful prints that we pulled, right? I mean, whilst the pleasure for me personally
is actually in the process, and in the mastering of that process, I absolutely LOVE making
beautiful cards out of these makes, don’t you?
So I thought we could chop up a print or two, and make a couple of cards with the prints.....
